Arthroscopic Surgery

Arthroscopic Surgery, or Arthroscopy, is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which an examination and sometimes treatment of the interior of a joint is performed using an arthroscope, a type of endoscope that is inserted into the joint through a small incisions.

The advantage of arthroscopic surgery is that the joint does not have to be opened up through a large incision, reducing recovery time by less causing trauma to the connective tissue.  This is especially beneficial to athletes, who frequently injure joints and yet require a short healing time.

During arthroscopy, surgeons are able view the interior of the joint on a video monitor and are often able to diagnose and repair torn joint tissue in the same procedure.
